Zinergy batteries allow location, temperature and other sensor-derived data to be monitored and communicated throughout their lifetime, whether that is a logistics journey, a diagnostic measurement, or drug delivery.
Printed batteries are thin, flexible, and environmentally friendly. They can be punctured, cut, torn and twisted without danger, containing no flammable materials. Consequently, Zinergy’s printed batteries can be used in applications where safety is paramount and where thinness and flexibility are required.

Advantages
of Active Labels

Zinergy batteries have 1.5 V, 3.0 V, 4.5 V and 6.0 V nominal voltages. They come in a range of energy capacities and peak currents to power a variety of applications.
Our standard products are designed to fit within common logistics label dimensions.

Active RFID

Can measure and store temperature data off-line during a logistics journey, and download the data later, on request.

Bluetooth™ (BLE)

Can track location over much larger distances, even globally. BLE labels can provide centimetre- level accuracy as well as direction finding. BLE labels can also measure and store data from many more sensors, such as light, movement, humidity, etc., creating highly versatile sensing devices.

Cellular (5G)

Can do everything BLE labels can, and more. Cellular labels do not rely on local RF or BLE beacon installations and can operate independently to proprietary data silos, eliminating data concerns in multimodal logistics networks. Using the 5G telecoms network labels can be tracked internationally, with accurate location data gained from WiFi sniffing.

Logistics

Traceability is becoming increasingly important in supply chains, minimising waste and providing location and quality transparency from source to destination.
The increasing adoption of low power wide-area wireless technologies such as LoRaWAN, SigFox, Zeta, NB-IoT, and LTE-M allows individual packages to be tracked over small and large distances without requiring line-of-sight detection, while also recording data such as the package temperature and humidity. Battery-powered active labels provide frequent up-dates on location, temperature and humidity throughout the journey, providing traceability and quality assurance.
Thin, flexible printed batteries allow logistics labels to be printed at the point of use, using thermal and industrial printers, and provide the high currents required for even the most demanding wireless communication protocols.
Zinergy has a wide range of experience producing transportation and logistics labels for a variety of wireless applications. All Zinergy batteries are certified Air safe. Contact us to see what can be achieved!

Cold Chain Transportation

Fresh food, plants, blood and some pharmaceutical products need to be kept chilled during transportation from source to destination. Typically, the temperature of the vehicle transporting the produce is monitored to provide quality assurance.
However, the temperature of individual items is not usually monitored, and when vehicle temperature control fails, or packages are removed or left unmonitored in loading bays and warehouses, quality is diminished and waste increased.
Monitoring individual items provides quality assurance as the package temperature is recorded throughout the journey. Smart wireless labels allow temperature and location data to be obtained without line-of-sight, removing constraints on label visibility.
Zinergy batteries continue to operate at temperatures down to -30°C and up to 60°C, ensuring data collection whatever the weather!

Flexible Wearables

Wearables that adhere to skin need to be flexible. Printed batteries are an ideal source of power for flexible wearables, providing power for sensors that make physiological measurements
Hospitals and healthcare centres provide patient tags purely for identification. Adding flexible batteries to tags would allow patient to roam while continuing to measure vital statistics such as temperature or heart rate.
Active wearable tags could alert patients to return to clinics or healthcare staff to patient anomalies. Linking the tag to a mobile device can allow hospitals to push notifications to patients’ mobiles, while maintaining wireless security within the hospital.

Patches for drug delivery and cosmetics

Iontophoresis is a process that accelerates the transport of chemicals, such as drugs, creams or gels, through the skin by applying a safe, small voltage.
Flexible batteries enhance the wearability of patches and improve customer adoption.

Printed medical diagnostic devices

The importance of diagnostic tests became obvious as Covid-19 swept the world. People around the world relied on tests to be able to travel and meet in public. Hospitals and healthcare centres relied on diagnostic tests to ensure the safety of patients and staff alike.
This renewed focus on diagnostic tests led to advances in test production and communication. Bluetooth™ connected tests reached market and connected diagnostic tests became the mantra.
All-printed diagnostic tests are being developed around the world, and printed batteries provide an opportunity to create low-cost, environmentally safe consumer-oriented disposable diagnostic devices.
In the post-Covid-19 era, the opportunities for low-cost, connected diagnostic still abound. Infectious diseases are not only commonplace, but their incidence is migrating as global climate changes allow carriers to migrate to new territories.
Governments, globally continue to develop contingency plans for another pandemic, and low-cost diagnostics form an essential part of those plans. Investments are planned to increase the availability of local diagnostic centres and constraints on healthcare budgets are encouraging individuals to manage their own health more proactively.
The advent of easy-to-use, connected diagnostic devices will empower healthcare centres, individuals and even governments to manage health better.

Exhibitions & Events

Event labels typically contain a printed bar-code to communicate identity. An optical scanner is required to read the label, requiring physical interaction and scanner hardware that is connected to a back-end software server.
Incorporating a printed battery into these labels allows them to communicate wirelessly over Bluetooth™ or other low power wireless networking protocols, such as ZigBee, SigFox, LoRaWAN, Mioty, Zeta. Attendees can be identified without line-of-sight and their motion tracked around the event. Exhibitors can identify potential clients without line-of-sight.
Two-way communications can also be established, allowing event organizers to connect with individuals dispersed in crowds. Connecting the label to a mobile device can allow richer, frictionless interactions.
